Equipment needed:
One slammer pad and kicking pad per line
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
In this drill the students will practice their balance while kicking. The students will stand on a large pad and kick a target while an instructor shakes the pad and challenges the student’s balance even more. This will help them build better balance and gross motor skills in their legs.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student falls off from the pad, then the student has five squat jumps.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to kick while the ground underneath them is unstable. This works on their ability to perform a task despite distraction, the distraction being the pad shaking as they are kicking.
Step 1
Divide your class into even lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor to place a large pad on the ground and sit behind it. A second instructor will hold a clapper target in front of the pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
You will begin kicking the clapper target alternating legs.
While you kick, the instructor behind you will try and shake the pad to challenge your balance.
Your goal is to do up to ten kicks without falling off balance.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Focus on good kicks
Maintain good balance on your standing leg
Step 5
Continue until each student has at least three turns.
