Drill: Balloon Balance
Equipment needed: 1 balloon per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Group
Description: Students will work on having good BALANCE by keeping their foot up while trying to kick the balloon in the air before it hits the ground.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can see how far the students can go on their turn, and see how many times they can kick the balloon without it touching the ground. The instructor can remember the highest number that the students got, and set a record for the school. The instructor can set that number as the goal to beat every time the students play this game.
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to kick a balloon out of the air three times without letting their foot touch the ground. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must be able to keep their leg up, see where the balloon is, move around the balloon while keeping their leg up, and kicking the balloon.

Divide your students into groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student in each group will come up and put their hands up by their eyes.
  • When the instructor says “go” and throws the balloon in the air, the ninja will lift their leg up and try to kick he balloon 3 times without dropping their leg and without letting the balloon hit the ground.
  • On round two challenge them to see how many times they can kick the balloon before it hits the ground, or they lose their balance.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eye on the balloon so that you know where it is!
  • Keep your head up so that you can keep your head up.
  • Move around so that you can hit the balloon!
