Drill: Circles
Equipment needed: One blocker pad or stick per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students are going to practice moving their leg in a circle around the pad ten times.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student puts their foot down or hits the noodle with their leg, then that student will have three jumping jacks. If the student is able to do it without putting their foot down or hitting the noodle, then the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must focus on keeping their stomach muscles tight, as they are holding their leg in the air for an extended period of time, while moving their leg in a pattern. This works on their ability to focus on one thing for an extended duration.

Divide your students into sveral lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
 
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student in line will circle his (her) left leg around the blocker pad ten times while trying not to put his (her) foot down after each circle.
  • Continue until each student has a turn.
  • Repeat the drill using the opposite leg.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on leg strength and balance by kicking without putting the leg down
Step 5
  • Make sure you help the students build balance by telling them to keep their body still and not “wiggly.” You may also need to gently hold some students shoulders to help them build better balance.
