Skill: Balance
Drill: Chamber Holds
Equipment needed: One small block or target
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice their BALANCE by holding their chamber high and not falling. This will also increase leg strength by forcing them to hold their leg up high.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the block falls from in-between their elbow and knee, then the student must restart from zero.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to perform their front kicks while keeping the block in between their knee and elbow. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must do their front kicks, keep the block on their knee, and keep their elbow on the block at the same time.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need one dodgeball
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will lay on their back
  • The instructor will place a dodgeball between their feet as they hold it 6” off the ground.
  • Then lift the ball 90 degrees up and to the instructors hand.
  • Then bring it back down but not to the ground.
  • Repeat for 5 leg raises.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your stomach engaged the whole time
  • Don’t touch the ground with the ball
  • Keep your eyes on the ball as you lift
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2-3 turns.
