Drill: Ladder Hops
Equipment needed: 5 rings per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good balance by being able to do hops on one foot without falling or leaving the ring.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can make it a competition to see who can complete all of their hops without falling outside of the ring.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to keep their leg up high, while hopping on one foot and making sure they stay inside of the ring. This works on their ability to do multiple things at once.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first student in line will come up and stand into the first ring.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • For the first ring all the have to do is lift one leg up and do one hop on on foot without falling or leaving the ring.
  • They will the step into the next ring and do 2 hops on one foot.
  • Each time a student moves up a ring that will add one more hop on what they have to do.
  • This continues until the student has made it to the last ring.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your head up so that away you can finish all your hops.
  • Keep your tummy strong so that you aren’t bent over while you’re hopping.
  • Keep your legs strong by trying to hop in one place with out leaving the ring.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
