Skill:
Balance
Drill:
Balance Circle
Equipment needed:
1 square pad
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
Students will work on having good BALANCE by keeping their foot up while passing the pad around to everyone in the group.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can set a time limit, like ten seconds or more depending on the size of the group, and see if the students can pass the pad in that time limit. Each round, the time limit can get smaller, so the students have to go even faster.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The students have to make sure that they are paying attention to the drill for the whole duration, as well as keeping their leg up so they know when its okay for them to put their leg down. If they lose their attention, they might space out and put their leg down, causing the team to start over.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students in each group will make a circle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” all the students will pick up one foot then use two hands to pass the pad to the person next to them.
  • This will continue until the pad has gone around to each person in the group.
  • The student’s goal is to keep their foot up the whole time, if a ninja puts their foot down then the pad will go back to the beginning and they have to start over.
  • The team to get the pad around the circle then sit strong and say “finished sir/ma’am” will be the winners.
  • Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your leg up as you wait for the pad.
  • Keep your head up so you don’t fall over.
  • Use your tummy muscles to keep your body up!
  • Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds
