Skill: BALANCE
Drill: Front To Side
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice BALANCE by demonstrating multiple kicks in different directions without putting their foot down.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can allow the student to chose how many times they would like to repeat the combination on their turn, up to five times. This will empower the students as they have a say in what they do, and it will also allow the students who are not as comfortable pick an easier level; the students who want a harder challenge can pick a harder level as well.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to do different kicks, while keeping their leg up in the air. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they have to focus on maintaining balance and making sure they are doing the correct kicks.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and will demonstrate a front kick and a side kick without putting their foot down.
  • They will continue that combo 2 more times for a total of 3.
  • If they can demonstrate the kicks without putting their foot down, then the instructor must do 5 push-ups.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your knee up so that you’re not tempted to put your foot down.
  • Keep your hands up, it will help you stay balanced.
  • Make sure you pivot on your sidekick so that you don’t fall.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 – 3 turns.
