Class 1 – Kicking & Punching

Static Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Hold seal position
  • Legs: Hold jack-in-the-box
  • Abs: Hold feet out the water
  • Core: Hold Spiderman’s
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on KICKING and PUNCHING.
  • Who can tell me what KICKING means?
  • Who can tell me what PUNCHING means?
  • We are going to play the following KICKING drill: Don’t Knock the Pad
  • We are going to play the following PUNCHING drill: Hand Smacks
Skill-Building Drills – 7 Minutes

Don’t Knock the Pad:

The student will practice their KICKING by turning their body and side kicking a slammer pad while kicking over a stack of slammer pads. This will help the students build control, gross motor skills, and spatial awareness.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say “go” to prompt the students to kick, while saying words that sound like “go” (like ghost) as well in order to enhance the student’s auditory processing.
  • Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to look over their shoulder and spot their target, while looking out for the tower and making sure they don’t knock it over.

Hand Smacks:

The student will practice their punches by hitting the instructor’s hand. This will help the students build good hand-eye-coordination.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – See who can be louder while counting, the instructor or the student.
  • Brain SKILLZ: WORKING MEMORY – The student must remember to keep their hands up by their eyes while they do their punches.
Passive Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Side bends
