Drill: Up and Over
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will practice having good RHYTHM by learning to counter the forward push of an aggressive opponent and flipping them onto their back.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into lines.  
Step 2 – Explain the rules:
  • The first person will go to the middle of the mat.
  • The next person will run to them when the instructor says “go”.
  • They will go to grappling position and charge forward.
  • Their partner will then hook the inside of the knee with their foot, lay back, and lift their leg up and over, with the opponent ending up on their back.
  • They can then stand up and high five the next person in line who can then repeat this process.
  • The first line to finish will be the winner.
Step 3 – Takeaways
  • Do your best to always maintain a good grip on your partner.
  • Keep a solid flow and do not pause.
  • Do not fight against your partner.
Step 4
  • Continue 2 – 3 times.
