Description:
Students will practice having good versatility by being able to demonstrate a basic combo on one side of their body then the other side.
Teaching SKILLZ: Neurobics
switch up the way combos are called out (for example, using colors, objects, or numbers instead of technique names) to challenge students’ adaptability and keep the drill fresh.
Brain SKILLZ: Cognitive Flexibility
students must quickly shift their thinking to perform the same combo on one side of the body and then on the other, adjusting coordination and technique with each step down the mat.
Step 1
Separate your students into lines, based off of how many instructors you have.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules
The first student in each line will come up and stand in front of their instructor.
The instructor will call out a basic combo (ex. High block, punch, Front kick).
The student will then have to demonstrate that combo using one side of their body then do it again on the other side of their body.
As they are doing this the student should be walking down the mat.
They will keep doing the combo alternating sides until they have made it all the way down the mat.
If the instructor catches the student using sloppy techniques then the student will have 5- pushups before continuing.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
Make sure that you are moving forward so that you play the game correct.
Apply detail to the techniques that you are doing.
Make sure to apply technical speed to your combinations.
