  • INTENSITY means to have great frequency, pitch and magnitude.
  • PERSEVERANCE means to not give up your endurance, focus, or determination.
  • We are going to run one INTENSITY drill and one PERSEVERNACE drill, and then review the testing requirements for both SKILLZ.
Skill-Building Drills – 10 Minutes

Burn Out:

In this drill the students will apply intensity to their exercises. In this drill the students will work as a team to have more intensity in their exercises.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
  • Brain SKILLZ: RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to do their exercise quickly, although they must also have good technique. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being other people being ahead of them or their body getting tired.

Obstacle Course:

The students will work on their PERSEVERANCE by completing a challenging obstacle course and maintaining strong technique throughout the exercises.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can time each student to see how long it takes them to get through the course. After that, they can tell the student to remember their time, and the second time they come up, they have to beat their score. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to get a faster time than they did previously.
  • Brain SKILLZ: WORKING MEMORY – This works on remembering information while performing a task, as the obstacle course has many stations and the students have to remember what each station does while they play this drill.
