Drill: You’re Up
Equipment needed: Students need their Bo’s
Instructors needed: 1 per group
Description: The students create their own combos on the fly, based on their teammate’s techniques.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into groups.  
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go”, students will have 2 minutes to keep a combo going.
  • One student will start in the middle and flow through a combo.
  • When they stop, another student must jump in a begin to flow with their own combo, starting from their teammate’s last move.
  • When they stop, another student must jump in; this will continue for the duration of the round.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Be different; don’t use the same combo every time you’re up.
  • Add intensity and make it engaging to watch.
  • Hustle to transition; don’t waste time trading spaces.
Step 4
  • Continue for several rounds, changing up the groups.
