Class 13 – Hopping

Static Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Hold seal position
  • Legs: Hold jack-in-the-box
  • Abs: Hold feet out the water
  • Core: Hold Spiderman’s
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on HOPPING.
  • Who can tell me what HOPPING means?

Here are the three hopping tips that I want everyone to practice today:

1. Keep your feet together as you hop. 2. Bend your knees before you hop. 3. Keep your head up as you jump.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Laser Beam:

The students will practice HOPPING by demonstrating their ability to hop over a moving obstacle multiple times without falling.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can jump over the noodle without getting hit, the instructor will do five pushups.
  • Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the noodle coming towards their feet and space their jump correctly.

Diamond Hops:

The students will practice HOPPING by demonstrating their ability to hop in multiple directions. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to jump forward, sideways, and backwards without falling or stumbling.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES – The student can choose which color ring they want to start in each time they come up.
  • Brain SKILLZ: ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to look ahead, despite wanting to look while jumping backwards, until they complete all their jumps.
Passive Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Side bends
  • Pat your back
  • Kneeling reach forward
  • Kneeling reach backward
Game – 3-minutes
  • Ninja Ninja Turtle
