Skill: STRENGTH
Drill: Lockdown
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: One Per Group
Description: The students will practice STRENGTH by demonstrating their ability to hold another person down, this will help them physical and socially by having them engage their whole body to keep the other person down without getting upset or out of control.
Teaching SKILLZ: Extrinsic Motivation
recognize students who demonstrate strong control and composure (not just winning) to encourage safe, disciplined grappling behavior.
Brain SKILLZ: Response Inhibition
students must resist the impulse to rely on raw strength or frustration, instead staying calm and making controlled decisions to maintain position without losing focus.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups
Step 2
Each group needs 1 instructor to monitor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules
  • The students will lock arms back to back.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will battle to keep the other down using appropriate grappling/wrestling techniques.
  • No Striking, Kicking, Submissions, etc… Only positions that help establish control, if a student can stand up without the other person having any hold of them, and say “finished sir/ma’am” they win the round.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Stay controlled don’t let emotions get the better of you.
  • Go for control before standing.
  • Make sure you’re free when you stand up.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
