Drill: Leg Lift Challenge
Equipment needed: 1 chair/1 clapper pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice FITNESS by demonstrating their ability to show good endurance in their legs by lifting their leg and sidekick position.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can see which students can beat their score that they got on their last turn. This will motivate the students to do better than they did previously, and they will feel more confident when they get a higher score because the students will feel like they got stronger, since they could see the progress they made.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to resist the urge to bend their knee or put their leg down when their leg gets tired. This works on their ability to complete a task in full despite distractions, the distraction being how tired their leg gets.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will have a seat with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and place one hand on the chair.
  • The student will extend their lead leg into sidekick position, they will start with their foot low to the ground.
  • They will then lift their leg up to the clapper pad trying to hit with the side of their heel.
  • They will do 10 reps of this without letting their foot hit the ground.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your leg straight to get stronger.
  • Don’t let your foot hit the ground.
  • Keep your hand on the chair for balance.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
