Skill: Fitness
Drill: In and Outs
Equipment needed: One ring per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will work on building their leg muscles by jumping in and out of the ring.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can allow the students, on the second/third round, to choose how many jumps they want to do, up to fifty. This will empower the students by allowing them to have control over what they are doing, and they will be more motivated to do the activity and excited to try the harder options.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to jump continuously without stopping until they reach the number of jumps they are supposed to do. This works on their ability to focus on one thing for an extended period of time, as the amount of jumps that they have to do is high, which requires their attention for longer.
Step 1
Divide your students into several lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first person in each group will stand in the middle of the circle and jump in and out of the ring non-stop, 20 times.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Students will jump in and out of the ring non-stop, 20 times.
  • You can add variety to this drill by having them jump and spin 360 degrees during each jump (but for only 10 reps because they get dizzy) or having them jump and tuck their knees high during each jump.
  • You can even challenge the students by having them do 30, 40, and even 50 jumps! You’ll be amazed at how many students want to do 50 jumps.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • The goal for this drill is for the students to also build agility by jumping continuously without stopping after each jump.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
