Skill: Fitness
Drill: Lumber Jacks
Equipment needed: Two foam swords per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will build their leg muscles. The students will pair up with a partner, each holding a foam sword. The students will take turns chopping at their partner’s head as their partner ducks by bending their knees to build their leg muscles.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student gets hit with the noodle, then the student will have three pushups.
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to see the noodle swinging over their head, and squat at the right time so they do not get hit with the noodle. This drill works on the ability to process visual activity and respond to visual cues.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Pair your students up with a partner. Give each student a foam sword.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I say “go” the first student will chop at their partner.
  • You must duck as they try to chop your head.
  • You will go back and forth chopping at each other’s head ten times each.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Practice the proper way to duck by bending your knees deeply and dropping your bottom to the ground.
Step 5
  • Continue until each pair has gone twice.
