Skill: Fitness
Drill: Burpee Breaks
Equipment needed: 1 re-breakable board per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice FITNESS by demonstrating their ability to show good endurance in their legs by lifting their leg and sidekick position.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – On the second round, the instructor can ask the student if they would like to do palm strike again, or switch to a hammer fist. This choice will empower the students, and give them a little more control in what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to do a burpee, see the middle of the board, and hit it strong so that it breaks. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to pop up from their burpee, and quickly spot their target so they can break the board.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will have a seat with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will say “GO” and the students will start to do burpees with a push-up.
  • When they land after their squat jump they will break the board with palm strike.
  • This will continue for 5 reps, if the board doesn’t break then hit it again.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be brave as you break the boards.
  • Be strong as you do your burpees.
  • Breathe as you do your burpees.
