Drill: Black Belt Relay
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The purpose of this drill is to return the black belt to the instructor as fast as possible. Explain to the students that you want them to run as quickly as possible to make their heart stronger! This drill is super fun because the students get to play with you.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can make the game harder on the second round by saying that if a student drops the belt, then they have three jumping jacks before they can continue running.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must run down to the cone and back while holding their instructor’s belt. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they want to run as quickly as they can in order to get a point for their team.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The instructors will be the leaders.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When you say “go” the leaders untie their belts, run down to the end of the mat then back handing off the belt.
  • The next person will take the belt, run to the end and back handing off to the next student.
  • This repeats until the leader is back at the beginning.
  • To win, the leader must tie the belt back on and the team must sit with legs crossed and say “finished sir!”

  • Learn to move fast
  • Cheer your on your teammates
  • Run with an object in your hands
