Drill: Burpee Blocks
Equipment needed: One foam noodle or blocker pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their FITNESS by running fast then performing a burpee before jumping to their feet and blocking.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Instead of saying “go”, the instructor can say words that sound similar, like “gopher” and “ghost” in order to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor say “go”, then they must run down the mat and complete their burpees as quickly as they can with good technique, and make sure that they see the noodle coming towards their head and block it correctly. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have one instructor with a noodle or blocker pad at the opposite end of the mat from their line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” you will run to them.
  • They will try and hit you with the noodle, as they do so perform a burpee.
  • Go all the way to the ground then jump up again to your feet.
  • The instructor will then try to hit you on the top of the head with the noodle.
  • You must perform a high block. Then run back to the end of your line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Do a full push up before you stand.
  • Do a strong block.
  • Move fast with good technique.
  • You can make it a race to see which line can finish first.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student goes three times.
