Drill: Zombie Crawl
Equipment needed: 1 large pad per line, 1 board
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will build their FITNESS by crawling on their stomach to the other side of the mat, students are not allowed to use their legs which will increase their arm strength as they crawl.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student loses their pad, then the student has three pushups before they can get back on their pad.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to push themselves to the end of the mat with just their hands. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distractions, as this drill can get tiring, so the goal is for the student to be able to pull themselves down the mat without taking frequent breaks.
Step 1
“Divide your students into lines on one end of the mat. Have the first student in each line lay on a large pad and have 1 instructor per line ”
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the first student in each line lay on a large pad and have 1 instructor per line holding a board.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” you will pull yourself down the mat only using your arms.
  • If you lose your pad you must do 3 push ups before getting back on top.
  • When you reach the end, break the board with a palm strike and then run back.
  • The fist line to finish wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your belly low as your crawl down the mat.
  • Don’t take breaks when you get tired.
  • Use all your power to break the board so you don’t have to take multiple swings.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
