Skill: Fitness
Drill: Ball Pass Relay
Equipment needed: One Ball Per Line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will build their FITNESS by racing to deliver the ball to the opposite side of the mat, throw or roll it back to their team so the next person in line can repeat this until one line successfully moves their entire team to the other side of the mat.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say another word that sounds like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will work on their auditory processing as well, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must hear the instructor say “go” frog jump past the cones, and then throw/roll the ball to the next person in line. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they must be able to get their whole line back first in order to win.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines on one end of the mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Designate a finish line on the opposite side of the mat. Give the first person in line a ball.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the first person will frog jump with the ball to the opposite side of the mat.
  • Once they reach the finish line, throw or roll the ball back to your line.
  • The next person will then repeat this.
  • The group to have everyone cross the finish line wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • As you jump down be sure to squat all the way down and touch the ball to the floor.
  • As your legs begin to burn, try harder to jump as far as you can.
  • Be careful when you throw or roll the ball back so your team can get to it quickly
Step 5
  • The line that finishes the fastest is the winner.
