Drill: Burpee Ball
Equipment needed: 1 dodgeball per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good fitness by being able to keep a dodge ball between their feet as the do a burpee.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – On the first round, the instructor can say the students can do three burpees, but if they want to get their blackbelt one day, they will do five burpees. On the second round, the instructor can add on if they want to make their instructors proud, they will do seven burpees. On the third round, the instructor can add on that if they want to make their parents proud, they will do ten.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to do burpees with a ball between their feet. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must be able to focus on the ball between their feet as well as having good technique with their burpees.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first student in each line will stand up and place the dodge ball between their feet.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Their goal is to do a burpee keeping the ball between their feet. When they stand to do the jump, they can grab the ball and jump with it in their hands.
  • For the first round have the ninjas do 3 burpees, on round two have them do 5.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Get low in your push-ups so that you get stronger!
  • Stay strong on each rep and don’t give up!
  • Don’t drop the ball as you are doing each rep!
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
