Drill: Kapow Punches
Equipment needed: 3 small blocks per line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: In this drill students will work on building core and upper body fitness by punching stacked blocks from a push-up position.
Teaching SKILLZ: Healthy Competition
Instruction: “Race as a team! First group to finish correctly and fastest gets the point—cheer each other on!” This motivates students through energetic team-based competition.
Brain SKILLZ: Visual Processing
Students must accurately identify and strike the top, middle, and bottom blocks in sequence—requiring them to visually process spatial positioning quickly while in motion.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setup the drill
Place 3 blocks stacked on the opposite end of the mat
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the first student will bear crawl down the mat.
  • Once you reach the 3 blocks punch the top block.
  • Then punch the middle block.
  • Finally punch the bottom block.
  • End by bear crawling back to your line.
  • The first line to finish gets a point.
  • First team to reach 3 points WINS!
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Do your best to not fall while crawling down the mat.
  • Keep your eyes on the blocks while you punch.
  • Crawl back to your line as fast as you can!
Step 5
  • Continue until 1 team has 3 points!
