Drill: Sprint!
Equipment needed: One ring, one cone per line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will work on their FITNESS by making their heart and legs stronger as they sprint down the mat and place a ring over a cone, or pick the ring up.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Instead of saying “go”, the instructor can say words that sound similar, like “gopher” and “ghost” in order to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the instructor say go, run down to the cone and either put the ring down or pick it up, and run back to their line and high five their partner. This drill works on the ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they have to make sure they run as fast as they can in order to win the race.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, set one cone at the opposite side of the mat. Give the first person in each line a ring.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When you say “go” the first person in line will run the ring down to the cone and place it on top.
  • Then run back and tag the next person in line.
  • They will then run to the cone and bring the ring back.
  • This continues until everyone has gone.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Run fast!.
  • Pick your legs up off the ground.
  • Move your arms fast.
  • The first team to finish wins.
Step 5
  • Continue for two or three rounds.
