Drill: Takeaways
Equipment needed: Multiple pads needed for techniques.
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will practice having good RETENTION by demonstrating their ability to remember the takeaways given at the beginning and use all 3 as they lead their line through different techniques. This will challenge them mentally by requiring them to store important information in their head as they lead a line.
Step 1
Have students form lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first person in line will face their teammates.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will give them a pad to hold and a technique to watch, they will also give the instructor 3 takeaways they should be looking for during the drill.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the 1st student will explain the technique and will the hold for to rotations through the line.
  • The leader must use all 3 takeaways during the rotations if they forget some takeaways its 5 push-ups for everyone missed.
  • After the first student is done then they can choose the next leader of the drill.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be loud so that you can sound confident.
  • Make sure what you are saying makes sense to the drill,
  • Be fast when you see something a student can improve upon and use the takeaways to help them get better.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has multiple turns.
