Drill: Burpee Bustas
Equipment needed: 1 board per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good PERSERVERANCE by being able demonstrate strong burpees then break a board.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – On the second round, the instructor can explain to the students that if they do five burpees, they will make their instructors proud. If they are able to do ten burpees, then they will make their parents proud too. If they are able to do fifteen burpees, they will make themselves proud too.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to do their burpees and break the board every time until they complete their turn. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being their body getting tired.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first students in each line will come up and stand in front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • For the first round the students will be doing 3 burpees, at the end of doing each burpees the student will stand up and do a palm strike board break.
  • On round 2 the students will do 5 burpees, on round 3 the students will do 10 burpees maintaining good technique.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Hit the board as hard as possible so that it will break.
  • Don’t give up as you do each board break!
  • Show good technique on each report so that you get stronger.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
