Drill: Pad Slides
Equipment needed: One slammer pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their perseverance in their core muscles by sliding a pad down the mat using their core muscles.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – When the students pull the pad into their body, they must name something from an age-appropriate category, like colors or superheroes. This will engage their left and right hemispheres of the brain and allow the students to be more engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to walk their hands out in front of them, and pull the pad into the middle of their body without bending their legs. They must do this until they reach the end of the mat. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being their core getting tired.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need a slammer pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will place your feet on the slammer pad while your body is in a push-up position.
  • Using only your core muscles, you will slide the pad towards your hands while keeping your legs straight and your feet on the pad.
  • Your goal is to have perseverance in your core muscles by not bending your legs while you slide the pad down the mat.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Wokr on core muscle perseverance when it gets tired by finishing the drill.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
