Description:
The students will work on their PERSEVERANCE by attempting to incorporate gymnastic skills into their martial arts.
Teaching SKILLZ: Up the Rep
Each time through the drill, students are encouraged to add more effort and power to their roll, stand, and jump kick. This keeps them pushing their limits and showing stronger technique every round.
Brain SKILLZ: Cognitive Flexibility
Students adapt when moving from a forward roll to a more advanced move like a cartwheel and jump front kick, adjusting their body and focus to meet the new challenge.
Step 1
Divide the class into lines.
Step 2 – Setup the Drill
Demonstrate how to do a forward roll & stand without needing hands.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules
The first student will do a forward roll, stand up without using hands, and then immediately perform a jump front kick before running back to their line.
The next student can start once the other student has made it half way.
When you’re finished, run back to your line and have a seat.
Step 4 – Takeaways
Use proper techniques on your jump kicks.
Don’t get frustrated if you make a mistake or have a tough time. The more you have to focus on the details, the better you will become!
Try your hardest even though it may be difficult. If you perform at your best, you will increase your ability.
Step 5
Continue for 2 rounds. In the second round you can make it more challenging by having the students attempt a cartwheel, jump front kick.
