Equipment needed:
1 box shaped item and 1 kicking shield per line.
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
Students will practice having good PERSERVERANCE by being able to jump or step up onto the box then do 2 strong front kicks.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – Every time the student does a kick on the pad, they must name something from an age-appropriate category, like colors or superheroes. This will engage their left and right hemispheres of the brain and allow the students to be more engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to jump high onto the tower, complete their front kicks, and jump down. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being their legs getting tired.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first students in each line will come up and stand in front of the box.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
When the instructor says “go” the student will either jump with two feet onto the box, or step up onto the box, then do 2 front kicks.
This will repeat 2 more times for round 1.
On round 2 have students do 5 and on round 3 have them do 10.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Keep your head up so that you do not fall off the pad.
