Skill: Perseverance
Drill: Ninja Tunnel
Equipment needed: 1 Board Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill students will test their PERSEVERANCE by having to hold a push-up position while their teammates work together to each break the board.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the lines silly team names in order to motivate the students, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to score and win for their team.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must listen and watch for when the person in the front is done, and the person in the back then has to crawl through the tunnel they made. After this, they must break the board, and then be a part of the tunnel again. This works on their ability to hold onto information while they are doing a task, as they have to remember multiple steps for this drill.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, an instructor will hold the board for the students.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • For each line, have the students line up facing the instructors.
  • Tell them to turn left (or right) and get down to their push-up position.
  • The last person in the line will Army Crawl using only their arms underneath the tunnel created by the students in the pushup position.
  • When the student stands up, he/she has to palm strike and break a board.
  • Once the board breaks, he/she will get into his/her pushup position at the front of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • If you are in the push-up position, Don’t give up!
  • Don’t use your legs while you crawl
  • If the board does not break the first time, don’t give up, hit it again!
Step 5
  • Go through the line at least 2 times.
