Skill: Perseverance
Drill: Exercise Burn Out
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: In this drill the students will do a ladder-style exercise combo burn-out. The purpose of this drill is to push the students to maintain good technique in their exercises as their muscles get tired.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can let the students know the four exercises they need to do, but the instructor can let them do the exercises in any order. The choice in the activity will empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to do multiple exercises quickly and with good technique. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being their body getting tired.
Step 1
Line up your students on one end of the training mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
You will run to the opposite end of the training deck and do five push-ups, leg raise, squat jumps, and jumping jacks.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • After your first round, you will run back to the starting point and tag the ground then run back to the opposite end of the deck for round 2.
  • On each round you will repeat the process by adding five reps per round, up to five rounds.
  • As you reach the higher level of reps your muscles will burn, but you must have perseverance and apply all three exercise tips from above.
Step 4 – Takeaways:

  • Maintain your efforts when nuscles get burned out
