Skill: Perseverance
Drill: Obstacle Course
Equipment needed: 1 slammer pad, 4 rings, 2 cones & 1 bar, 1 square block/line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their PERSEVERANCE by completing a challenging obstacle course and maintaining strong technique throughout the exercises.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can time each student to see how long it takes them to get through the course. After that, they can tell the student to remember their time, and the second time they come up, they have to beat their score. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to get a faster time than they did previously.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – This works on remembering information while performing a task, as the obstacle course has many stations and the students have to remember what each station does while they play this drill.
Step 1
Divide your students into even lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Students will complete the obstacle course, tag their teammates and the next student will go.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Start by hitting the slammer pad with 10 alternating snap front kicks.
  • 4 high knee steps through the rings.
  • Jump over/crawl under the bar 5 times.
  • Do 5 push ups touching their chest to the block.
  • Hit the slammer pad with 10 strong punches and run back to the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Maintain proper technique to develop strong muscle memory, especially when fatigued.
  • Keep your breathing calm so that you can push yourself and recover quickly.
  • Cheer on your teammates. When the going gets tough, having people there to cheer you on can give you the extra push you need!
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 – 3 rounds.
