Skill: Perseverance
Drill: Push Over
Equipment needed: 1 Kicking Shield Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill students will have to show good PERSEVERANCE by trying their best to hold their stance even when it burns and give 100% at all times.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the students to pick a partner in ten seconds. The instructor can then put those partnerships into lines. This gives them the chance to work with the people they want to work with, which can motivate them to win and compete against their friend. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to focus on more than one thing at one time, as they have to focus on sitting in a strong stance so they do not get pushed over, while pushing hard so they can try and knock their partner over.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, place a kicking shield in the front.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first two students will face each other.
  • Both students will get into a middle stance.
  • A Kicking Shield is horizontally placed between the two students and they will hold it up by pushing it towards each other.
  • The instructor will count down to 1 from 10.
  • If the student falls down or stands up, they lose.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Stay as low as you can when in your stance
  • Don’t give up when your muscles get tired
  • Try hard even when you are losing your balance
Step 5
  • Continue through the line at least 2 times.
