Skill: Perseverance
Drill: Bag Drag
Equipment needed: 1 wavemaster base, 1 clapper pad & 1 Spare Belt per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill students will work on their PERSEVERANCE by being tied to a wavemaster base and being the first to drag it down the mat.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can award a point to the student who finishes first, and the team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. The instructor can then give the winning team the ability to pick an exercise for other students to do, not exceeding five reps. This will motivate the students to win so they can pick an exercise for their friends to do.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to pull the bag down to their instructor, and then perform ten front kicks. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, since they want to be the first ones done in order to get a point.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Tie one end of a belt to the wavemaster base. Tie the other end to the students’ belt, behind their back. Position 1 instructor per line 6-10 feet down the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” drop to bear crawl position.
  • Then begin crawling down the mat.
  • Once you reach the instructor stand and perform 10 front kicks on the pad.
  • If you are the first, you get 1 point for your team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Stay low to the ground so you can move the bag faster.
  • Don’t give up try to keep moving the entire time.
  • Kick the pad with power to help develop stronger legs.
Step 5
  • Continue until everyone gets 2-3 turns through the line.
