Skill: COMMUNICATION
Drill: Maze Walker
Equipment needed: Lots of pads and a blindfold per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice COMMUNICATION by demonstrating their ability to give clear instructions to their teammates. This will challenge them mentally as they must give explicit details to their partner to better help them beat the challenge.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups with a partner.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each group, you will need pads all over the square. 1 pad should be the labeled as the pad they want to retrieve.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1ststudent will stand up and blindfold themselves.
  • Their partner will start to talk them through the maze with the goal of retrieving the marked pad.
  • The blindfolded student needs to retrieve the pad and bring it back through the maze without touching any pads.
  • If the blindfolded student hits a pad, then they are out and they will switch roles with their partner.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be loud so your partner can hear you.
  • Listen to your partner.
  • Be explicit with your instructions.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
