Skill: FOCUS
Drill: Strikezone
Equipment needed: 1 Slammer Pad
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: The students will practice FOCUS by demonstrating their ability to hit multiple different zones on a pad. This will challenge the students mentally by forcing them to hit and remember the different zones on the pad.
Teaching SKILLZ: Trickery
By calling out random names that don’t match the zone such as “honey, milk, lemon” instructors keep students mentally alert and physically reactive, sharpening their listening skills and adaptability during the drill.
Brain SKILLZ: Auditory Processing
Students must hear, interpret, and respond to multi-step auditory cues in real time—boosting their ability to follow directions and translate sound into coordinated action.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setup the drill
  • For each line, you will need and instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the pad.
  • The instructor will go over the different zones of the pad, which are high, middle, and low.
  • The instructor will call out a combo of 3 zones and the students must hit each of the zones using alternating punches.
  • If the student can get all 3 zones correct they get a point.
  • On the following rounds if you want to go up to 4 zones you can.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Hit the pad hard every time.
  • Make sure you listen for the different zones.
  • Keep your fist tight the whole time, no doughnut hands.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2-3 turns.
