Skill: Focus
Drill: Hot Feet
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill students will work on developing FOCUS with their feet by watching their instructor and quickly following along without getting left behind.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask if the students want to go slow, medium, fast, or ninja fast. This will allow the students to choose their own difficulty that they are comfortable with. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to follow their instructor’s footwork quickly. This works on their ability to respond to visual cues quickly, as when the instructor steps towards them, they must step away, and when the instructor steps away from them, they must step forward.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each instructor face their line in a guarding stance
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Instructors will use proper footwork moving forward and backwards 5 times.
  • Keep your eyes on the instructors feet so you know which way to move.
  • Students must mirror the instructor’s footwork and maintain a consistent distance.
  • If you fall behind or don’t move back within 2 seconds you are out!
  • On round 2 go until you make a mistake.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
