Skill: Focus
Drill: Know Your Foot
Equipment needed: One slammer pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students are going to kick the pad with all three kicks using the three parts of their foot.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – On the second round, the instructor can count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to kick the pad correctly depending on the type of kick they are doing. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as the students have to do the kick the instructor says while keeping their ankle in the correct position so they can hit with the proper part of the foot.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have your students make a straight line. You may need two lines depending on the size of the class.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Teach the students how to kick the slammer pad with a round kick hitting the target with the top of the foot.
  • Teach the students how to kick the slammer pad with a front kick using the ball (or bottom of the foot).
  • Teach the students how to kick the slammer pad with a side kick using the heel.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn the various kicks by hitting with the proper part of the foot
  • Kick rapidly using the appropriate part of the foot
Step 5
  • Now randomly call out a kick and the student must react fast and kick with the appropriate part of the foot.
