Skill: Vision
Drill: Grab the Block
Equipment needed: One block and wave cushion per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will build their knowledge of their vision words with a quickness drill.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the students to pick a partner in ten seconds, and put them into opposite teams to they are competing against each other. This gives them the chance to work with the people they want to work with, which can motivate them to beat their friend even more. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to remember the definition of the character words while they do this drill. This works on their ability to recall information that they have learned in the past, as they have to say the correct definition of whatever word the instructor calls out.
Step 1
Pair your students up with a partner.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up a wave cushion with a block on top and have the pair’s line up on opposite sides of the bag .
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will say a character word and the first person to grab the block gets to say the definition.
  • If they answer with the proper definition, then their team gets a point and their opponent has to do 10 push-ups.
  • If they answer with the wrong definition then they have to do 10 push-ups. The other team does not get a point.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on quickness and knowledge
Step 5
  • The first team to 10 points is the winner.
