Drill: Having Courage
Equipment needed: 3 Kicking Shields
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their VISION by learning that it takes courage to do things that are hard or scary like jumping and rolling over pads.first.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can let the students choose what speed they would like to go: slow, medium, or fast. The choice in the activity will empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to run to the pads and do a forward roll while jumping into it. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being any fear or doubts they may have going into the drill.
Step 1
Divide the class into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
At the opposite end of the mat, place one kicking shield long-ways and two more perpendicular to it set end to end to create a landing zone.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Make sure each student knows how to do a forward roll.
  • You will run and jump over the first pad.
  • Then putting your hands down first, tuck and roll over the remaining two pads.
  • Then run to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • The goal is to have the courage to not stop and land softly.
Step 5
  • Continue for 3 rounds.
