Description:
The students will work on their VISION by learning that it takes courage to do things that are hard or scary like jumping and rolling over pads.first.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can let the students choose what speed they would like to go: slow, medium, or fast. The choice in the activity will empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to run to the pads and do a forward roll while jumping into it. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being any fear or doubts they may have going into the drill.
Step 1
Divide the class into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
At the opposite end of the mat, place one kicking shield long-ways and two more perpendicular to it set end to end to create a landing zone.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
Make sure each student knows how to do a forward roll.
You will run and jump over the first pad.
Then putting your hands down first, tuck and roll over the remaining two pads.
Then run to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
The goal is to have the courage to not stop and land softly.
