Skill: Vision
Drill: Vision Breaks
Equipment needed: One board for each line.
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice VISION by racing against their peers to break a board with a palm strike while saying your VISION work or definition.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to run down to the board and hit the board in the correct spot with the correct technique in order to break it. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to recognize that the top middle of the board is their target for a palm strike.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
An instructor will be holding a board at the other end of the mat
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will run to the opposite side of the mat
  • They will break the board will a palm strike while saying their VISION word
  • Once they finish they will tag the next person in line to go
  • The first team to finish will get a point for their line
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Run fast so you can get to the board first
  • Hit hard so the board breaks in one shot
  • Remember your word so you do not have to repeat the break
Step 5
  • Continue until one team has 5 points
