Skill: Vision
Drill: Log Roll Relay Race
Equipment needed: One wave bag cushion per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will build their knowledge of their vision words with a log roll relay.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students must be able to remember the definition as they roll the pad down the mat. This works on their ability to hold onto information while they do a task, as if they answer with the wrong word, they do not get a point for their team.
Step 1
Divide your class into lines and have them line up on one end of the training mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will lay a wave bag cushion on its side.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will say a definition and then say “go.”
  • You will race to the opposite end of the training mat by rolling the wave bag cushion.
  • The first student to the other side gets to answer the question.
  • If they answer the question correctly then the other student has to do 10 push-ups.
  • If they answer it incorrectly then they have to do 10 push-ups.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Build knowledge of vision words
Step 5
  • Continue until each pair has three turns.
