Drill: Ants in a Line
Equipment needed: One clapper target per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will build discipline as a group by following all of the directions correctly. This is a great drill to build discipline as a group because there are a bunch of directions that they must follow as a group.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – While doing their kicks, the students can name different colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students must be able to work together as a team to hold pads for their friends, and kick the pad strong. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they must remember all the steps and directions they were given, and work together as a team to make sure everyone gets a chance to kick.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Give the first student in line a clapper target.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student will turn and face the second student in line.
  • The second student will kick the target 10 times alternating legs on each kick.
  • Next the second student in line will take the clapper target and turn and face the third student in line and repeat the process.
  • The goal is for the students to follow the instructions through two rotations while maintaining discipline and following directions.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn to work with teammates
  • Following directions
Step 5
  • When the last student in line is finished, then he/ she will run to the front of the line and repeat the drill.
