Drill: Ninja Ears
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: A few to Monitor
Description: The students will work on their discipline by using their ears to listen to certain commands and follow promptly. This drill will teach the students to listen closely.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can start counting by saying things like “one day”, “one Tuesday morning”, or “achoo!” in order to try to trick the students. This will improve the students’ auditory processing as they will have to listen for the whole phrase, and not just the first part.
Brain SKILLZ:
” AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must listen for when the instructor starts and is about to stop counting, and then listen for the listening position number. This works on their ability to respond quickly and accurately to audio cues, as they have to hear the instructor call out a listening position and get there as quick as they can. ”
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
 
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor counts “1, 2, 3” you may run towards him/her as quickly as possible.
  • Then the instructor will turn around and call out listening position 1-4, the students must stop and assume the appropriate position.
  • If they move or do the wrong position, they must go back to the beginning and start over.
  • To win, they must tag the instructor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Run fast and stop fast.
  • Listen for the position.
  • Get to the position fast.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 -3 games.
