Skill: DISCIPLINE
Drill: Kicking Machine
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 Instructor
Description: In this drill we will build the DISCIPLINE to be a first time listener by stopping when we hear the instructor and maintaining good kicks when they are not looking.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say another word that sounds like “go” in order to trick the students, like “gopher” and “ghost”. This will further test their auditory processing, as they have to listen for the whole word and not just the sounds of the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must be able to hear when the instructor says “go” and “attention position”, and respond accordingly. This works on their ability to respond to verbal cues correctly, as they want to respond as fast as they can in order to be a good first time listener.
Step 1
Line the students up on their dots.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The instructor will stand in front of the class and give DISCIPLINE commands.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “GO,” the students will begin to perform front kicks, alternating their kicking leg.
  • When the instructor says “Attention Position,” the students will yell “Yes Sir/Ma’am” and stand in their Attention Position.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Kick Strong even when no one is looking
  • Stand Strong the first time you hear the instructor
  • Be Loud when answering up
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 to 3 minutes.
