Skill: Discipline
Drill: Eyes on Target
Equipment needed: 1 Clapper pad, 3 Cones, and 1 paper ball per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on having DISCIPLINE with their eyes while paying attention to which cone has the paper ball under it!
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – On the second round, the instructor can ask the student how fast the instructor should switch the cones: slow, medium, or fast. This will allow the students to choose their own difficulty that they are comfortable with. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to pick the correct cone after its position has moved. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to keep their eyes on the cone with the ball inside as it moves around.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up three cones side by side with the paper ball under one of them.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will switch around the cones for 10 seconds.
  • You must keep your eye on the cone that has the ball.
  • After 10 seconds choose which cone has the ball.
  • If you choose correctly, you get to do 10 Front Kicks on the clapper pad
  • If you choose wrong, you must do 10 Squat Jumps
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes glued to the cone with the ball.
  • Don’t get distracted by your surroundings.
  • Try not to get confused while the cones are moving.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
