Skill: Discipline
Drill: Escape Tag
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several
Description: The students will develop their self-discipline skills by escaping the proper way (within five seconds) when the instructor grabs them. This is great for developing self-defense skills and confidence.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student gets caught and is not able to escape in five seconds, then they will have five jumping jacks. For every student that is able to escape every time during the whole game, the instructors will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to tell which defense to use and perform it correctly depending on if the instructor grabs them on their arm or their shoulder. This works on their ability to recall information that they remember doing in the past, or their episodic memory.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines and then quickly review a single-hand escape with the students.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:

  • If you do not escape, then you have to go to the side and do five jumping jacks before returning to the game.
