Skill: DISCIPLINE
Drill: 2 Cones and 1 Bar per line
Equipment needed: One ball per line
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: Students will work on their DISCIPLINE by pushing through to have the most self- DISCIPLINE and hold their stance the longest.
Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES
The instructor can ask the student what challenge level they would like: eight, ten, or fifteen seconds. This will allow the students to choose their own difficulty that they are comfortable with. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ: RESPONSE INHIBITION
The students must be able to hold their middle stance low enough so that their bottom touches the bar. This works on their ability to stay on task despite distraction, since they need to be able to stay in their middle stance the whole duration, even if their legs hurt.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2
Set the bar on the top rung on the opposite side of the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the first student in line will run to the bar.
  • The will do a middle stance with their bottom barely touching the bar.
  • If you fall, stop touching the bar, or bend the bar too far you are out.
  • After 15 seconds, if you are still “in” than you earn 1 point for your team.
  • Keep going until everyone gets 2 turns.
Step 3 – Takeaways
  • Don’t give up when it hurts.
  • Focus on something happy!
  • Try not to be loud when it gets difficult.
Step 4
  • Continue for 2 – 3 games.
