Description: In this drill the students will race back and forth across the training deck doing various exercises and Martial Arts moves. The purpose of this drill is to teach the students how to have self-discipline by following the rules properly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can make it a competition of who can do their exercises and martial arts moves the best, and also never give up. This will motivate the students to be the best while playing this game, and to not give up even if they are tired.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to play the game without cheating or letting their technique slip. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, their distraction being how tired their body might get while doing their exercises and moves.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the student’s line up on one end of the training deck. Designate the starting side B and the opposite side A.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When you race to side A, you will perform 10 exercises:
  • Round 1: squat jumps Round 2: push-ups Round 3: leg raises
  • When you race to side B, you will perform 10 Martial Arts moves:
  • Round 1: front kicks Round 2: punches Round 3: high blocks
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • The purpose of this drill is for you to have the self-discipline to follow directions and not cheat. If you are caught cheating then you must start over. Cheating would be: not doing all of the reps and/ or doing the exercises or MA moves sloppy.
Step 5
  • The drill is complete when the last student is finished. Pick the student that has the best self-discipline based on their overall effort.
